Academic Visit to National Lok Adalat at District & Sessions Court, Ghaziabad

12 September 2026IPEM College, Ghaziabad

About the Event

IPEM Law Academy successfully organized an academic visit to the National Lok Adalat held at the District & Sessions Court, Ghaziabad, on 12 September 2026. The visit provided 30 law students accompanied by 2 faculty members with valuable firsthand exposure to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and practical judicial proceedings. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical application, enabling students to observe the functioning of Lok Adalat benches and gain insights into the resolution of both pre-litigation matters and pending cases.

Objective

· Understanding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR): Students gained practical insights into the statutory framework governing Lok Adalats under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and observed how disputes can be resolved through conciliatory mechanisms outside the conventional litigation process. · Observing Amicable Settlements: Students witnessed negotiation, conciliation, and settlement processes across various matters, including compoundable criminal cases, civil disputes, matrimonial matters, banking recovery cases, and traffic challans. · Role of Judicial Officers and Conciliators: The visit enabled students to understand the important roles played by judicial officers, advocates, and conciliators in facilitating dialogue and assisting disputing parties in reaching mutually acceptable settlements. · Finality and Binding Nature of Awards: Students learned about the legal effect of Lok Adalat awards and their status as decrees of a Civil Court, providing finality to matters settled before the Lok Adalat, subject to the applicable legal framework. · Decongestion of the Judicial System: The visit highlighted the significant role of Lok Adalats in facilitating speedy dispute resolution and contributing to the reduction of pending cases before the courts. The academic visit proved to be an enriching experiential learning opportunity, deepening students’ understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution, access to justice, legal aid, conciliation, and practical dispute management. Such initiatives at IPEM Law Academy continue to provide students with meaningful exposure to real-world legal processes, complementing classroom learning with practical experience and fostering a deeper understanding of the Indian justice delivery system.
