Purpose and Objective:

The purpose of this expert talk was to introduce law students to the core principles, methodologies, and tools of legal research. The session aimed to enhance research proficiency among budding legal professionals by focusing on techniques for identifying relevant legal issues, using authoritative sources, and constructing well-founded legal arguments. Objectives included improving students’ analytical and interpretive skills, fostering a research-oriented mindset, and preparing them for academic and professional excellence.

Description:

IPEM Law Academy organized an enriching session under its “Expert Talk Series” titled “Fundamentals of Legal Research.” The session was designed to strengthen the research capabilities of students from BALLB, BCOMLLB, and LLB programs. It covered various facets of legal research including doctrinal and non-doctrinal methods, citation practices, and the use of legal databases. The expert speaker shared practical tips on framing research questions, locating primary and secondary sources, and maintaining academic integrity. The session encouraged active participation, with students engaging in Q&A and practical exercises that emphasized the importance of research in both legal academics and practice.
